The Shelby Cobra have a rich racing career. Shelby wanted it to be the Corvette-Beater and the did it. The racing version of Cobra was over 200 kg lighter than the Chevrolet Corvette. Driven by Jack Sears and Peter Bolton, the Cobra reached a speed of 298 km/h on the M1 highway, became the fastest road car in the world in the Guinness Book of Records.
Shelby Cobra MK III was developed in Detroit in collaboration with Ford. The new car had wide fenders and a large opening in the body in front of the radiator. Also received a new engine Ford FE 427 (7.0 l) with a capacity of 425 hp. standard or 485 hp in special version that provided a top speed of 290 km/h. Production of the Cobra Mark III began on January 1, 1965.
The third generation AC Cobra is considered a classic among collectors with prices start at $ 1 million. In January 2013, a 1967 Shelby 427 Semi-Competition Cobra went under the hammer at an auction in the United States for more than $ 2 million.
