History

The Jaguar XK120 roadster was produced between 1948 and 1954 with the maximum speed of a production car is 200.5 km/h and a specially prepared one is 219.83 km/h.

The development of the car's engine began during the Second World War. To draw attention to the
company on the "Earl's Court Motor Show" in 1948, a new engine was installed on a prototype called Jaguar Super Sports, which was not intended to be mass produced. But the car was greeted with enthusiasm by the public, which was not at all expected by the company and caused unforeseen difficulties. The aluminum panels of the prototype were handcrafted and it took some time to start its mass production. Therefore, it was launched only in 1950, and in 1949 only 240 of these cars were produced. The car became heavily marketed, including United States.

The Jaguar XK120 was the fastest production car. In the 1950 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, 3 XK120s were competed, but didn't take any prizes. In 1951, Jaguar released a racing modification called XK120 — C-Type, and in 1951 Peter Whitehead and Peter Walker took first place at Le Mans.

There were only roadsters on the start of production, first coupes left the production line in 1951 and convertibles in 1953. A total of 12,078 cars were produced, 240 of them were produced with the original aluminum body. Over 80% of cars were exported, the vast majority in the United States.
